Annual Bead Challenge and Members' Mercado

BEAD CHALLENGE CATEGORIES 1. Volunteer Bead: Any jewelry or beaded object made using the 2009 volunteer bead from the Bead Bazaar.
2. Necklace: Entries must include beads, & may incorporate wire, lampwork, found objects, fibers, buttons, knotting, chain.
3. Bracelet: Entries must include beads, & may incorporate wire, lampwork, found objects, fibers, buttons, knotting, chain.
4. Beaded Object: Entry is anything that is not jewelry - doll, pictures, sticks, sculpture, wearable clothing.
5. Class Project: Entry is anything you created after taking an RMBS sponsored class since September, 2008. For example, David Dean, Robin Atkins, Diane Fitzgerald, Laura Shea, Kristal Wick, Bead Collage, Bead Bazaar 2009 classes, 2009 Bead Sampler classes, and Wendy Ellsworth. You will be asked to identify the class you took.Guidelines: You must be an RMBS member. Entries from previous years are not eligible. Only one entry per category.
Prizes: Each category: First Prize $75; Second Prize $50.

All of the classes and kits are FREE and are for all levels of experience. RMBS members only.Studded Square Stitch Beaded Beads - Dustin Wedekind
Make rigid beaded beads using a reinforced tubular square stitch.
THIS CLASS HAS REACHED FULL CAPACITY AND IS CLOSED Polymer Clay - Mary Moore
Polymer Clay is a great medium to create beads, buttons and altered art. Come join us in exploration and creation with this media. We will be studying color and design, using a pasta machine and doing hand rolling of the clay.
Crystal Medallion - Janet Kay Skeen
Using stringing and net stitch to make a Swarovski crystal medallion suitable for a neckpiece. It's a quick and easy project that most students will finish in class. Creativity Workshops - Vicki Schroeder

Session B - 12:15 - 2:15 p.m. - Overcome Creative Blocks
Session C - 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. - Designing Your Creative ContainerAll classes will include thoughtful, colorful, and fun creativity exercises, group sharing and development of a practical take home plan to get creative, overcome blocks and make your creative space and time even more supportive of your work/play with beads. Some classes will be doing collage with paper and craypas.
Found Object Necklace - Betsy Ellis - 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. (Session A only)
Working with found objects as well as beads can create many unique designs but it can be a daunting challenge to locate and utilize these objects. I will have many types of ordinary and easily obtained items to create a bracelet that will give you an opportunity to work with found objects as well as suggestions about finding and working with objects to create jewelry pieces. Some basic wirework will be taught. THIS CLASS HAS REACHED FULL CAPACITY AND IS CLOSED Beading 101 - Sonja Colt - 12:15 - 2:15 p.m. (Session B only)
If you missed this at Bead Bazaar, or just want to brush up on your wrapped loops, stringing and crimps, come improve your technique and make a bracelet and/or earrings. Herringbone Stitch - Sonja Colt - 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. (Session C only)
This is a procedures class to get you comfortable with the starting stitches for herringbone, then spiral and tubular HB techniques will be taught. You can use the samples to continue on with your own project. THIS CLASS HAS REACHED FULL CAPACITY AND IS CLOSED

- Lone Tree Beaders
The Lone Tree Beaders is a beading interest group that meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month in Lone Tree at the Lone Tree Civic Center, 8527 Lone Tree Parkway, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00ish. We are sponsored by the Lone Tree Arts Commission and guided by an advisory committee that consults the group for input. We share a common love of beading and are committed to creating an environment that supports expanding knowledge, increasing skill level and artistry, as well as fostering creativity. We choose to work in a relaxed, freindly manner, with minimal organization. We have many levels of experience, welcome all who have at least some experience in beading, and are willing to share. Each meeting has a demonstration of technique or a project presentation by a member. We also plan to have some special classes. A group of interested RMBS folks on a private tour at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
- Bead Bazaar (2009)
Nearly 200 students in classes this year! Probably becuse of getting the brochure out so early (and sending it to so many potential students), early website action, and superb advertising! The vendors had a banner year, too!
